Hjaltland Complete New Housing Development

Hjaltland Housing Association has recently completed the construction of twenty six new properties at the North end of Lerwick as part of its new build housing programme. The properties at Hill Grind and Burnbank form part of a wider development started by the Shetland Islands Council back in 2011.

Paul Leask the Associations Head of Investment and Asset Management said: “The new properties supplement the twenty two homes already built by the SIC at Cruester View and is yet another example of the positive outcomes being provided through our working partnership with the local authority”.

The development was designed by the Shetland Islands Capital Programme Service with Neil Clubb as the lead designer and Mott MacDonald as Structural Engineers. The scheme was recently completed by local building contractor DITT Construction at a cost of £2.5 million with the Association receiving £1.2 million of grant funding from the Scottish Government.

Bryan Leask the Associations Chief Executive said: “In total our new properties at Burnbank and Hill Grind will provide accommodation for twenty six families and is another step in the right direction in meeting the continued need for housing in Shetland”

Dawn McLaughlan, a new tenant at Hill Grind, said she would like to say a big “thank you to Hjaltland” and that she “loves her awesome new house”
