Hjaltland Housing Association - Duty of Candour Annual Report for reporting year 2022/23

All health and social care services in Scotland have a ‘Duty of Candour’. This is a legal requirement which means that when things go wrong and mistakes happen, the people affected understand what has happened, receive an apology, and that organisations learn how to improve for the future.

For Hjaltland Housing Association, this is applicable to our Housing Support Service, which is registered with the Care Inspectorate, and provides low-level support to tenants in sheltered accommodation.

An important part of this duty is that we provide an annual report about the Duty of Candour in our services. This short report describes how our care service has operated the Duty of Candour during the time between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023. We hope you find this report useful.

1. How many incidents happened to which the Duty of Candour applies?

In the last year, we are happy to report there were no incidents in line with the Duty of Candour legislation.

2. Information about our policies and procedures

Where something has happened that triggers the Duty of Candour, our staff report this to the Head of Housing and Customer Service, who has responsibility for ensuring that the Duty of Candour procedure is followed.

The Head of Housing and Customer Service records the incident and reports as necessary to the Care Inspectorate. In line with legislation, we will speak with those affected, seek their views, conduct a full investigation, and share our findings.

We promote a culture of openness and accountability. We will ensure suitable support is made available to any staff member involved in any incident, and review our procedures accordingly, to mitigate the risk of the incident recurring in the future.

A copy of our Duty of Candour policy can be made available on request. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us using the information at the top of this report.
