Your Rent - Your Views

January 15th 2024

Hjaltland Housing Association always strives to give tenants a genuine say on the key decisions that will impact them and their household. The greatest example of this is the annual rent review. All tenants should now be in receipt of ‘Your Rent – Your Views’, an information leaflet accompanying the feedback form on the proposed rent increase for 2024/25. Tenants who received a paper copy can return the form in the freepost envelope provided, or choose to complete the feedback online, at www.surveymonkey.com/r/HHARent24

As a registered charity and social housing provider, we have a responsibility and an overall duty of care to protect the interests of all our 830+ tenants. This responsibility is not limited to the provision of good quality accommodation tenants are proud to call home, but also includes a duty for us to be financially responsible. In essence, this means using the money we receive from rents wisely, and making sure the Association remains a strong and viable organisation.

Although rents are reviewed annually, we complete financial modelling over a much longer timeframe to make sure the decisions we make today do not weaken the financial status of the organisation in 15 years’ time. We are not a profit-making business - all the money we generate is re-invested back into the homes and services we provide.

With the Association being a social landlord and registered charity, maintaining rent at an affordable level is the number one priority when it comes to considering a rent increase.

The Association’s Management Committee are inviting comments and feedback in relation to the proposed rent increase for 2024/25. Comments will be collected until Friday 9th February 2024, with a summary report being presented to the Management Committee on Thursday 22nd February 2024.

Once a final decision on the rent increase has been made, tenants will be provided with at least four weeks written notice before the new rent levels commence in April 2024.
