Radio-Teleswitch Service switch-off.

The energy industry body Energy UK has recently confirmed the Radio Teleswitch Service, which enables charging of storage heaters and hot water in certain properties, will come to end in June 2025. Energy UK have therefore asked as many organisations as possible to publish details on their websites to assist in raising awareness of the processes involved.

The decision to switch-off the service will mean a different metering solution is required and customers will need to discuss this with their electricity provider.

All electricity providers are required to contact impacted properties to offer them an upgrade before the service ends, however customers can also get in touch with their provider directly and the Association would encourage tenants to do so.

Initial preparations for the shutdown of the service have been extended from March into June 2025 and OFGEM confirmed it is “monitoring the progress of suppliers and have asked them for updates on their work to replace and upgrade all RTS meters. They must make sure that their customers have a suitable electricity meter installed and that their service is not disrupted”.

The Association is aware this will have an impact on many of its tenants and has provided the following links with some additional information:
